copias ainda menores e assim sucessivamente".
Eles ajudam a criar texturas, simular vegetação ou
construir paisagens complexas.

One of the most beautiful images that constantly appear in Second Life's arts are fractals.
So
I decided to research them more and understand what they are.
I'll use some simple and direct concepts that I found on the Internet and invite this blog`s readers who have more informations on the subject to make comments that might feel significantly add to the discussion here.
"Fractals
are geometric abstract forms of
incredible beauty, with complex patterns that repeat infinitely, even if
limited to a finite area". This means that each fractal "contains
within itself smaller copies of themselves. Such copies contains
copies even lower and so on. "
Szolem Mandelbrot, Polish professor who migrated during the second war to France and later to the United States, was the most important and passionate scholar of fractals. He found that all these shapes and patterns had some common characteristics and that there was a curious and interesting relationship between these objects and patterns found in nature.
One of its main characteristics is that even when increased several times it keeps its original structure , can present a multitude of forms, and are produced by mathematical formulas.
"Some types have been used as the basis of digital animations. They help create textures and simulate vegetation or the building of complex landscapes. Apollo 13 (1995) and Titanic (1997) are some movies that have implemented this feature.
Some programs exist on the Internet suitable for creating fractal such as Apophysis and Chaoscope. There are others too.
In Second Life, fractals become fantastic pictures, beautiful textures for jars and other decorative objects. They can still move their forms, changing their colors and even contain sound emiters when scripts are added to the works . Anyway true eyedrops to our eyes.
There are many artists working with fractals in SL and would be impossible to mention all of them but I would like to mention as great examples of artists who work with fractals, Treacle Darlandes, owner of the St@rt Art Sculpture Gallery Gold and Milly Sharple from Timamoon Arts.
And to complete the week the Italian artist Maryva Mayo, another great representative of the arts in Second Life, inaugurated the exhibition FRACTALS ART, where she explains in large panels and discusses the concept of fractals and still presents wonderful sample of her creation. A Must See!!
